The Wedding That Almost Wasn't
It was the night of July 22, and the bride and groom were eagerly packing for their dream wedding in Punta Cana. Everything was perfect—until it wasn’t. Just after 11:00 p.m., my phone rang. On the other end was the bride, her voice was calm. “Our flights are canceled,” she said.
I quickly learned that due to a major IT outage at Delta, the couple and four of their family members were stranded. Delta couldn’t rebook them until the day of the wedding (July 27)—far too late to pull off the destination celebration they had been planning of for months. As their travel agent, I knew missing the wedding wasn’t an option.
Without missing a beat, I pulled up my resources. Time was ticking, and I had to find alternative flights, fast. After hours of searching and making countless calls, I finally found a solution. Spirit and Frontier Airlines could get them to Punta Cana, but it would be tricky. They would need to fly to Philadelphia first on July 23 and then continue on to Punta Cana the next day, July 24.
It wasn’t ideal—they would miss one day of their trip—but it was the only option that could still make their dream wedding a reality. The couple and their family agreed, grateful to salvage what could have been a disaster. Meanwhile, the rest of the wedding guests, who were scheduled to leave later that week, would still arrive in time without any issues. That night, I did not sleep.
On July 27, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana played host to a stunning wedding, just as planned. The bride and groom said their vows under the Caribbean sun, surrounded by loved ones. No one in attendance could have guessed how close it had all come to falling apart.
It wasn’t just good fortune; it was the determination, quick thinking, and persistence that got them there. As a travel agent, sometimes the real job is to make sure that even when things go wrong, they still turn out right.

The beginning of July took me to Memphis, Tennessee, and it certainly did not disappoint!
The highlight of the trip was spending quality time with my family at the Adams, Perkins & Coleman Family Reunion. There is nothing better than reconnecting with loved ones while creating new memories together.
While in Memphis, we explored the powerful National Civil Rights Museum, a moving experience that everyone should visit at least once. We also toured the legendary Stax Museum of American Soul Music, celebrating the artists and music that helped shape American history.
We wrapped up the weekend at B.B. King's Blues Club on the famous Beale Street, where the food was delicious, the live music was outstanding, and the atmosphere was unforgettable.

Last year ended with us spending nearly three weeks in Indonesia. Just when I thought I might stay home long enough to learn where I put my passport, January arrived.
We kicked off the year in Cabo San Lucas for a destination wedding I planned for nearly 60 guests. Nothing says "vacation" like making sure 60 people get to Mexico with their luggage, spouse, and wedding attire intact.
Spring was surprisingly quiet. By quiet, I mean I only checked airline schedules, cruise itineraries, and resort rates several times a day instead of every hour.
Now summer has arrived, and apparently my suitcase has decided it no longer needs to be unpacked.
First up is sailing on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady out of Barcelona. I am sailing with a large family that started off as clients and over the years become friends. Then it's off to Memphis for a family reunion (Dad's family), followed by another destination wedding in Cancun. We'll wrap up the summer with a cousins' trip to Destin, Florida, where I'm sure someone will ask me travel questions while I'm supposed to be on vacation.
As for fall? Your guess is as good as mine.
At this point, I've learned not to make plans. One day I'm relaxing at home, and the next day I'm researching flights, checking passport expiration dates, and explaining to someone why they really do need to arrive at the airport more than 20 minutes before departure.
The only thing I know for sure is that my passport is getting more exercise than I am.
